Jesus declares, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). By inspiration Paul wrote of Christ that the Father hath put all things under His feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church (Ephesians 1:22-23). Just as the head of the physical body is the source of authority or the controlling part of the body, so Christ has all authority in the church. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him (Colossians 3:17).
We should not doubt the necessity of obedience because Christ has all authority. We shouldn’t question the need of baptism , for Christ said, He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned (Mark 16:16). To question this statement or any other would be to question the authority of Christ. Jesus asks, And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? (Luke 6:46). He is the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him (Hebrews 5:9).
No one can accept Christ without accepting His authority. No one can really respect His authority without obeying His commands. To question His right to command us or to fail to obey those commandments, places our souls in jeopardy. Let us FULLY accept the authority of Christ. HJS
